There is no standard timeline from arrest to release in Ellis County. The total time depends on several factors that are outside the bond company's control: where the arrest occurred, when booking is completed, when magistration happens, when the bond is filed, and how quickly the Sheriff's Office processes release paperwork. Some cases move through quickly; others take significantly longer, and weekend, holiday, and high-volume periods routinely add hours or days to the process.

The first stage is arrest and transport. The defendant is transported from the arrest location — often by patrol vehicle directly to the Ellis County Jail or to a municipal facility for later transfer — and queued for intake. Arrests outside of Waxahachie often involve transfers between facilities, which add time, and transfer scheduling depends on the agencies involved.

The second stage is booking. Booking includes fingerprinting, photographing, recording personal information, medical screening, and entering charges into the system. Booking is run by the Sheriff's Office on its own schedule and is sensitive to facility workload. Bond agents do not control booking timing.

The third stage is magistration, where a magistrate judge formally presents the charges and sets the bail amount and conditions of release. Magistrates conduct hearings on a schedule set by the court. Backlog is common at peak times — Friday and Saturday nights, weekend mornings, and following high-volume events. Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Article 15.17 caps the wait at 48 hours, but the actual time within that window varies case by case.

The fourth stage is bond filing and release. Once magistration is complete and bail is set, a licensed bail bond agent can file the surety bond with the Ellis County Sheriff's Office. The Sheriff's Office then verifies the bond, enters it into the system, and processes release paperwork. Each step within this stage is controlled by the facility and is sensitive to workload, shift changes, and the queue of other defendants being processed at the same time.

Because timing at every stage depends on the facility and the courts — not the bond company — Act Swift Bail Bonds does not predict release times. What we can do is prepare paperwork in advance so the bond is ready to file the moment bail is authorized, then file promptly and stay in contact until release is complete.
